Today's Featured Biography
Shannon Funkhouser Shields
I am a kindergarten teacher at Scotland Elementary. I am currently pursuing my master's degree in Early Childhood Literacy through Wilkes University on line. Kindergarten is an ironic mix of childish play and grueling work! I still get to have fun, but there are high expectations with a great deal of accountability. Don't let anyone fool you that teachers have cushy hours and summer's off. It's more like 9+ hour days, regular weekend work, and never watching TV without multitasking on school projects. My kids even do work for me at home! Summer is merely a time to do all those things I didn't have time to do while the kids were in the room.
I am still married to my high school crush...Troy Shields, and I love him as much as I did way back then. We have two children, Aurora and Kyra Shields. Aurora is a productive little kid...always making lists, planning and organizing projects, and investigating and recording everything. The only downfall is that she is so full of inspriration for these projects that she can't keep up, and much of her work is unfinished or unpolished...and her room is always a mess of papers and cut up bits of cardboard! She loves animals and has trained our dogs to lots of tricks.
Kyra is a girl scout. She claims to "hate" school, but she is a straight A student. She is definitely a "Mommy's girl." She is 9 years old, and will still not let me go the bathroom in peace!
With my very little bit of spare time I enjoy cooking, scrapbooking, and working out. However, I do not know that the working out is doing me much good. Some health related issues have blessed me with an extra 40 pounds since my high school days. I should be back to normal soon, but for now the work outs aren't as fun as they used to be!
All in all, life is great. It is just amazing how quiclky it zooms by. I cannot believe it is time for another reunion!
