Today's Featured Biography
Karen Grimes Cooper
After graduating from DAHS, I attended and graduated from Lincoln University of PA in 1973 with a Bachelor's Degree in History and Education. I then continued my education by attending graduate school in Massachusetts. I graduated from Tufts University in 1975 with a Master's Degree in Education and History. I continue to return to school yearly, earning additional teaching endorsements. I am currently certified to teach U.S. History, World Cultures, Geography, Economics, and Earth Science in grades 5-12.
In the professional realm, I am a certified geography teacher consultant for the National Geographic Society - NGS(Washington,DC)and for the state of Indiana. I sit on the Board of Directors for the Indiana NGS Alliance called GENI. I spent time training at the United States Naval Academy (USNA in Annapolis, MD)to become a teacher consultant for the Maury Project. I enjoy presenting workshops on behalf of all three of these organizations.
In August 1975, I married Ronald Cooper of Indiana and soon became a permanent resident of the state. We have been married for 38½ years. I stayed home to raise our two sons before venturing-out into a 21 year teaching career. Both of our sons are now adult children and are married. Our oldest and his wife now live in Indianapolis,IN and our youngest lives in Mishawaka,IN with his wife and our 6½ year old granddaughter and our 3 year old grandson.
In 1988, I joined the staff of St. Andrew The Apostle School - in the Catholic School System. I completed my 19th year during the 2006-2007 school.
In August 2007, I retired from teaching to take a different job with the Archdiocese. I am now the Director of GATE Program (Gaining Access To Tomorrow's Education). It is a high school & college-bound program that I was charged with developing from scratch. I have the four Archdiocesan center-city Catholic Schools and the two Archdiocesan center-city Charter Schools under my aegis. In essence, I am a child advocate and I love the job!
Between family and teaching, I have had many many adventures. I have traveled to Kenya and Tanzania, East Africa to work with the late Mary Leaky. I have spent time in England and Belgium. In 2000, I accomplished my goal of spending time in the Hawaiian Islands and in 2001, my goal of spending time in Alaska was completed. I amc fortunate to accomplished my goal of seeing all five of the Great Lakes in 1999. Are there new travel plans in mind... Yes there are! I hope to soon have visited every state of the United States... I have to go...OR; UT; ND; KS; OK; LA; MS; TX; VT; ME; and NH. Along the way... I would also like to visit as many U.S. National Park sites as possible... all with my husband in tow!
In June of 2008, I spent a month in Guatemala engaged in Spanish language and Latin American cultural immersion ... something I truly enjoyed! In December 2009, my husband and I cruised to Panama, Costa Rica, and Belize. And in July of 2011, we realized life-long dream of a family cruise to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick (in Canada). The family will included all myself & my husband, our sons and daughters-in-law and our two grandchildren. You can tell that we are a family who likes to travel! :)
It was good to see everyone at our 35th Year Class Reunion! Hope to see all of you at many more!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
