Today's Featured Biography
Kent Schod
FAMILY
I married in 84 and had three children. After 13 years, she left and I continued to raise the kids. I met a wonderful lady just after the seperation and married Kim and her two children in 1998. That put us up to a total of 5 children. We didn't have a baby between us because babies grow up to be teenagers and we already had enough of them by this time.
My oldest son Christopher got married in 2005 and in August of 2006 gave me my first grandson. Yes, I am a grandfather!
Andrew is in Seminary in Missouri where he is obtaining his degree in Youth and Family Ministry.
Shayna and David are still in school and doing fine.
Kim and I bought a house on Maryland's Eastern Shore and love it there. It is a wonderful blend of Maryland's old-towne culture, a bit of Dallastown, and a small portion of Lancaster all rolled together. Kim says that Easton is now what Annapolis was 20 years ago.
CAREER
As for my career, I have been in emergency services/public service for almost all of my career. I obtained dual degrees as a Paramedic and Emergency Health Services Management from HACC and was a firefighter/medic for almost 15 years. I also worked with the York County Emergency Management Agency for 10 years.
Since then, I taught emergency services in a high school setting. That was not fun. After that, I worked with the US Department of Homeland Security where I functioned as a Domestic Preparedness Programs Instructor with the Domestic Preparedness Equipment Technical Assistance Program (DPETAP). That was a great job, but federal funding cuts stopped our visits to the fire departments across the US.
After DPETAP, I was fortunate enough to work for the US Senate, Sergeant at Arms in the Office of Security and Emergency Preparedness as an Emergency Management Specialist. That job was enjoyable and it brought us back from Arkansas to Maryland where the wife and I feel at home.
When I had my fill of legislative emergency management, I took a job with Holy Cross Hospital as their Emergency Management Coordinator. Here, I oversee the emergency management, disaster plans, staff education for disaster response, and work with other departments to ensure the hospital stays open during virtually any disaster situation. The job is fun, the people here are wonderful, and I couldn't ask for a better employer.
My love for God, Family, and emergency services has been my emphasis and will continue to do so until I return home to be with Our Father.
God Bless,
Kent
